Governor Lombardo Signs Executive Order Continuing Nevada’s Regulatory Reform Efforts
NEVADA, August 17 - CARSON CITY, NV. — Today, Governor Joe Lombardo signed Executive Order 2026-003, launching a review of Nevada’s regulatory framework and continuing his administration’s efforts to reduce unnecessary regulations, cut red tape, and make it easier to do business in Nevada.
Executive Order 2026-003 builds on the Governor’s Executive Order 2023-003, which directed Executive Branch agencies, departments, boards, and commissions to comprehensively review the regulations under their authority and identify opportunities to repeal, streamline, clarify, or otherwise improve them. That effort resulted in more than 900 regulatory changes being approved, representing significant progress toward creating a more efficient and business-friendly regulatory environment.
“From the beginning of my administration, I have been clear that government should protect the public without creating unnecessary barriers for Nevada’s families and businesses,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “Our first regulatory review demonstrated that we could eliminate outdated and burdensome regulations while maintaining important protections for Nevadans. Executive Order 2026-003 builds on that work and ensures we continue looking for ways to make government more efficient, accountable, and responsive.”
Under Executive Order 2026-003, Executive Branch entities with regulatory authority will again review the regulations they enforce and work directly with businesses, regulated industries, licensees, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement. Each entity will hold at least one publicly noticed stakeholder meeting by October 29, 2026, and submit its recommendations to the Governor’s Office by December 31, 2026.
“My goal is straightforward, Nevada should be one of the best places in the country to start, operate, and grow a business,” Governor Lombardo continued. “That means regularly asking whether our regulations are necessary, whether they still make sense, and whether there is a better way to accomplish their purpose without unnecessarily burdening Nevadans. We made substantial progress in 2023, and this Executive Order is about continuing that work.”
Following receipt of the reports, the Governor’s Office will work with agencies, boards, and commissions to evaluate their recommendations and determine appropriate regulatory actions beginning in 2027.
